Sybro Spinning, Slaithwaite - August 2012
Visited with Oldskool
Well, this place used to be amazing, with carding machines and the whole shebang filling the ground floors. All the machinery has since been taken out and sold on, and so the details and documents in the office upstairs are now all that's really left to see here. Last trading under the name Spectrum Yarns Ltd, Sybro Spinning have held residence around the Slaithwaite/Linthwaite area at a number of different sites over the years. I think in the 1950s the company was called Joseph Beaumont Junr Ltd - but the history is all a bit loose I'm afraid. Infact, my head hurts having tried to find out which of their former locations is the real 'Colne Mills', so far I have uncovered 4 separate addresses that all state 'Colne Mills, Slaithwaite'. Personally, I was just massively disappointed to learn that the usual array of industrial wall-pornography has now been removed.
Top marks to Host for checking in on the place and giving me the heads up. There are roughly 3.27 billion mills in Slaithwaite, so it's hard to keep tabs on them all.
Thanks,
tweek
