1st Dental Laboratories
- Harrogate, England
- June 2020
HISTORY
1st Dental was a Harrogate based private dental laboratory. Previously, the building was occupied by Aesthetic Dental Services, which was owned by Jim Bailey and Tony Kitchen. James Edward Bailey worked and was registered as Director at Aesthetic Dental Services Ltd from 31st December 1991 to 15 December 2000, until 1st Dental took over the site. 1st Dental specialised in dental moulds for prosthodontics (such as making dentures), whilst also serving as a private general dental practition.
In 2010, 1st Dental was placed into administration after losses of £326,000 the previous year. They were bought out by investment firm Zeus Group, and in 2012 the Harrogate branch closed.
Starbucks submitted three planning applications over the years to convert the former dentist into a drive-thru outlet, which has been denied every time due to busy road location, and the issues with construction and the movement of construction vehicles disrupting traffic. As of 2020, the building remains unused.
EXPLORE
As its located on a very busy road, a 6am morning explore was required. Located within the town i live, I've had this old dentist pinned since the beginning, and finally found out it had access.
As evident throughout, the youth of Harrogate have used the building as a place to hang out and take drugs. The building has been badly trashed and vandalised, with graffiti dating back to 2016.
I don't see why this building can't be a KFC or something similar as its big enough to have a kitchen and dining area, and I believe it would do well with the passing trade. Surely it can be used for something as opposed to remaining a dilapidated Harrogate eyesore?
