21 Wapping Lane, London
Gabe and I spotted this when walking along the other side of the river, after doing something completely different. We drove over and checked it out, before returning later that night to get up it.
It's not the highest of structures in the London, sure, but it offered some rather good views of the City one way, and Canary Wharf & the banking district the other.
Visited with Gabe and Rasinwing, and JasperB, who got some decent shut eye in the car whilst us guys went up.
Wapping is famously one of London’s oldest village settlements, having survived the 20th century with much of its historic maritime character intact. Any new building here needs to recognise and respond to its surroundings, but that doesn’t mean it has to be confined by them. Our development at 21 Wapping Lane will be an entirely modern intervention, designed to offer primarily residential accommodation, but also retail, leisure and recreation facilities, perfectly placed between the City to the west and Canary Wharf to the east. It will be the first major building in Wapping for 10 years and brings a new interpretation of riverside life in distinct, but sympathetic contrast to the old Wapping, an injection of bright urban vitality.
