This my first post and ironically I found this site researching this place but whilst on holiday in Tenerife we visited the abandoned leper colony/army base in abades. The town it’s self is a bit strange but nothing could prepare me for the magnitude of the base itself it covers an unbelievably large area. Originally built as a leper colony just as a cure for leprosy was found it never saw one leper then taken over by Francos army in the fifty’s some of the military badges and logos are still visible. Now derelict except a few squatters and the odd raver it’s left to decay. The hole place carries quite an eerie surreal feel to it but I would highly recommend a visit just tread carefully a lot of the buildings really are in state of decay
