So I was driving round looking for some new explores and came across an abandoned church and graveyard just 5 minutes from where I live. One building had burnt down in a massive fire in 2015 but the main church seems to be intact. I couldn't access the main church building but I did explore the abandoned graveyard and church hall which later became a learning center for painting and decorating. I beleive the church closed around 2015 aswell due to some of the dates on the graves.

Also a video tour aswell.

I agree luke but remember the age of these graves, I'm not sure I know where all my ancestors are burried. I know we have a family tomb in the church but I know that's full because we went down it a good few years ago to see if my grandma would fit but I'm not sure it goes back to the 17-1800's.
People's blood lines stop, the wars wiped out full family's for example, so once even the most dedicated friends pass on there's no one to tend the graves except for church volunteers
I think (but dont quote me on that) after 100 years graves are legally considered 'serviceable' ie they can be unmarked, moved or reused (im sure you still need to follow preceedures).
Usually the vandals smash them up, there's a piece put in the local paper, the local council remove them to storage until forgotten about then they are quietly smashed up and disposed of.

Ohh that’s bad as they are someone’s graves and we have a smilies graveyard in my town where some people have graves there who are like 8 when they died and dating to 1800s so ye their family might be old now

If the chuch stays active theres no problem but once the church shuts the volunteers stop.
It is sad.
A friend used to have 4-5 grave stones at the bottom of his garden, I think they were 1700 somthing, it was the owners of the place back in the day, they buried them there. I often suggested having them moved but he grew fond of them and tended to them until he sold the house and of last year, last I heard a jcb was seen fly tipping the head stones on the side of the road outside where they stayed until a week or so ago and now they've gone.

Depending what your beliefs are im not so sure many religions believe the person is left in the grave and instead go to some sort of higher god or heaven etc so they are only vessles.

Graves and head stones are for the living not the dead.

Yes I fully understand and it’s very disrespectful and disgusting how some people treat graveyards and graves in general and ye it’s sad that some churches stop running because of lack of money or even lack of people turning up to services
