OK my first report, here goes.
I work for one of the emergency services in London and between 2000 and recently I worked in the training department.
Part of my job was to go out and find suitable venues to train at. One that we found quite quickly and were able to use without too many problems was Aldwych Underground Station.
It's been used for loads of filming and was also used by HM Armed Forces and the Police for training too!
The station in about 2002 (when the pictures were taken) was pretty much as it was left when it shut down in 1994 due to lack of funds to replace the lifts.
We used it about every other week for about 2 years to train our new recruits and some of our specialist teams.
Looks pretty innocuous but imagine it in the pitch black, feeling for the edge of the platform and wondering if LUL had rembered to turn of the track current! Got quite spooky down there at times too!
There's quite a bit about the history of the site if you want to know more.
This is the well known entrance to the station.
Ticket hall still intact
Lower passenger tunnels to the platforms
Up one of the liftshafts
Walkway between the 2 liftshafts
Disused interconnecting tunnel between passenger tunnels (spot the casualty dummy?)
Stairs down to platform level (another dummy)
Platform (and another dummy)
Same platform
Disused tunnel bricked off
That's about it I have got some more pictures but they are much the same as these and some would compromise me!
I'm now back out in the world of Ops and I'm not sure what's happening with the station now but the last I heard it was going to become a theme bar!
Hope you like it
