Visited with REEF on a recent jaunt to the 'Isle of Thanet'.
This complex of tunnels was built in late 1940 and served as the South East Army Command Brigade Headquarters. The tunnels were built in a disused quarry and some nissen huts still survive above ground.
At the foot of the stairs. This is one of 3 staircases, the other two have been backfilled.
The construction style changes here from the typical WW2 metal frame to brick and bare chalk walls
Side rooms
roof collapse
Backfilled entrance
