RAF Ternhill is used by helicopters from nearby RAF Shawbury as a relief
landing ground. In other words loads of heli's come over and use the airfield
instead of cluttering up Shawbury. The only based aircraft are the Viking
gliders of 632 Volunteer Gliding School who only fly on the weekends.
The domestic site is used by the army as are the WW2 hangers. The RAF
use the airfield only but I can confirm big hairy dogs are used by the security
on the army camp!!!
Air Traffic Control
Like it says on the sign!
Empty radar room
Hit my head more than a few times.
Squirrel helicopter through the window of the aircrew rest room
Been there a few times !
Disused pyrotechnic store
There's still bomb shelters on the airfield but they are overgrown and blocked
up but I'll have a good look at them in the next few weeks. Will try and post
from Chetwynd,Shawbury's other RLG, next week.If I can post this one ok.
If there's any errors I apologize in advance.
