So, this is my first report after lurking on this forum for years...
A bit of history...
Avlon Works was operational for 50 years from 1968 to 2018. In 2016, AstraZeneca sold the site to Avara Pharmaceutical for £1 in the hope of securing the operation’s future, but Avara fell into administration and the entire site was put up for sale. Mountpark Logistics bought the site shortly after but recently Canada-based Epta Development Corporation bought it in December 2021. Maynards are now in charge of auctioning off the existing assets, the list includes 5000 lots valued at over £3 million. Once the site has been cleared, EDC is creating a warehouse park.
It’s a 100-acre site full of everything from manufacture, warehousing, offices to R&D. The site mainly would make active ingredients for other pharma companies!
“Among the equipment and facilities to be disposed of are five Large-Scale cGMP API Plants, with 6-10m3 reactors, pressure filter, conical and centrifuge drying, two Large-Scale Milling Facilities with Hosokawa mills and a cGMP kilo scale facility with 20-100 L reactors.,” shrug, with what this means?
The explore…
Nothing was planned but the day before we found out we were both free and decided to take a look at Avonmouth and see if we could find some places and so we left with a few Google map pins. Starting off at an abandoned farm, moving to a WW2 battery and then on to this. Luckily getting in wasn’t so bad but the site has a moat, tons of brambles and multiple fences covered in motion sensors and cctv! As we explored the first building and were a few floors up, we heard people quickly moving upstairs towards us, it sounded like they were checking each floor, we hid in a cupboard for around 20 minutes whilst they explored around us but never entered the floor we were in… Then we could see them slowly exploring the rest of the site as we were inside. Only managed to cover ¼ of the site over an afternoon before it got dark, it feels endless with each building being slightly different. Ready for another trip to see the rest before it’s all knocked down.
Too much cable/pipe porn to even show here…
