1. The History
Know next to nothing about this small mine apart from its name.

The kind folks off the forum have cast a bit of light on the mine:.

@Down and beyond states that it is the "site of a active dig hence the drag trays and the smooth floor".
@tigger states that is was a "lead mine/trial the same as all of the others in Middleton Dale".

Both these sound like they are on the money.

2. The Explore
Came across this place while having a walk-through Stoney. It’s easily to miss and the entrance is pretty small. It’s a crawl mine with a single inclined narrow and low main adit with several off-cuts to the side. I’m not too sure what was mined here and whatever it was, it was extracted on a pretty small scale. There’s also a few buildings nearby. That withstanding, it’s a cute little mine and just about worth of a report in its own right.

3. The Pictures

This looks like an old miner’s refuge:

There’s an abundance of marine fossils here:

Shed looks familiar...near Cupola Works?

Looks like it's been dug out relatively recently
Probably safe to assume it was a lead mine/trial the same as all of the others in Middleton Dale!

Definitely the site of a active dig hence the drag trays and the smooth floor.

I am wondering if their is another mine near by and this was once a ventilation tunnel into it ?hence why people are digging it maybe to gain access into a larger complex ?

Great photos, interesting mine. As D&B says, I wonder if there is a bigger one near by. Looks like a tranquil place. Id love to camp somewhere like this.

What type of mould is it ?
To be honest I'm not sure. I watch a YouTube channel with a guy who explores abandoned mines in the USA. He's come across the same thing a couple of times and explained (from 500 feet down a vertical shaft) that there wouldn't be roots at that depth. He said it was mold so give it a wide berth and particularly not to inhale it.
That said someone else told me it's a fungus and to avoid breathing in any spores.
So avoid it either way I guess

Is that the old bloke with the beard? I've seen quite a few of his mine videos but forget his name.

The one I watch is Abandoned and Forgotten Places with a guy called Gly Coolness (?) and he does have ickle goatee
But if we're talking about the dude with a beard that ZZ Top would be proud of then that's Canadian Frank.
And he's a bit mental lol
And sorry for the slow response

I've actually watched both of those channels on Youtube, its amazing how well preserved a lot of mines out there in southwest USA are, with the woodwork not rotting in the dry air.
Frank Schlicting does the Exploring Abandoned Mines channel, both are well worth a look with many dozens of videos on mine exploring.
