BRIEF HISTORY OF BARKEREND MILLS
The mill is a listed grade 2 building and was established in 1815 as a steam powered worsted spinning mill by the Garnetts family, there were more buildings on the same land surrounding the mill but this is one of the few left standing. Part of the mill was still in use up to 1999 but unfortunately was shut down, the machinery was removed and the building was sold to Pet and Garden World, some of there remnants still remain including pet bowls, fish tank & hamster cage accessories. There have been multiple arson attacks on the mill over the years but it remains in relatively good condition. There has only recently been news that the building will be renovated into apartments.
EXPLORING BARKEREND MILLS
This was our first ever explore and it was fantastic! We are local to the area and knew about it for a while so decided to give it a shot. We had an easy time getting in, nothing to indicate security. It was relaxed, creepy, and exciting all in one, all the floors are pretty much the same but still worth the time checking out, the basement was eerie too, pitch black the building seems sturdy enough, all round great location for newbies, do mind your step though never seen so many dead pigeons in one place!
Really fun explore would like to re-visit some day before they renovate it.
Forgive me if I left anything out and thank you for reading!
