I’m looking to find out which area in the UK has the highest concentration of urbex spots. Whether it’s military or industrial, what’s everyone’s go-to region?

bit of a open ended question.
for me wales north or south has lots, the north (liverpool / sheff, manchester) areas have huge concentration of stuff.
but these areas are not necessarily "the best" explores so depends what u want.

I'm sure there used to be more pronounced regionality a decade ago, but there is still a bit I think. Industrial revolution towns in w Midlands and North for manufacturing dereliction (oh and Teesside), east of England in general for military stuff, south-east for WW2 remnants. North Wales or Wiltshire if you like mines. Manchester or Bradford if you like drains. London if trains. Maybe just my tastes and experiences but I've found the general Midland swathe stretching from Cotswolds across to Northants/Cambs to be the most lacklustre in 'memorable spots' offering

Most places have very little nowerdays tbh.

Historically there's been more to see in the big Industrial towns and cities of the North and I guess London but nowerdays everywhere is slim pickings. I've found over the years most cities have gone through a 'Regeneration" phase where they wipe away large industry and anything sitting derelict. Some places this had happened before we really started exploring. Other places more recently. There's definitely quite big cities that have always been somwhat sparse (Exeter, Cambridge, Oxford etc.)

I knew northants was a dry spot for anything good

North and mid-Wales. Mines galore, old houses, churches and the odd bit of military too.
Agreed North wales is where its at for proper explores. Iv done 3 underground places in North wales which im 99% sure no-one has seen since their closure C100yr ago.
There is NO above ground explores where u can still truly say that. it is by definition exploring!

For Industrial sites I’ve seen Manchester, Sheffield and Liverpool have lots but there’s nowhere huge or incredible, just local empty factories used by kids as dens. Like Speed said these cities are having lots of regenerations and any empty or derelict spaces are quickly turned into homes or lots

Yea makes sense, I know wales has a lot to offer. It also looks good for underground explores as I know it has a history in mines. Thanks mate 👍
