Out of the bunch of various churches I visited, this is the only other one I'll dedicate a standalone thread to as most of the others I only got a few worthwhile photos from. This was also a lot more than just a church and surprised both me and my various friends who chose to do it.
The church, originally known as Westlawn Methodist Episcopal, was constructed in 1926 and replaced a smaller temporary structure on the same plot. In 1929 a large extension was built which housed classrooms, a gymnasium and kitchen. Through the changing demographics of the city from the 1950s onwards, Methodist churches struggled to maintain their congregations and in 1977 Westlawn closed and was merged with a nearby church, with the building sold to Greater St. Mark's Missionary Baptist Church who used it until 1995. From 1995 the building was used by Body of Christ Christian Center, who called the place home until they moved into a different building in 2013.
This place really surprised me, owing to how intact it still is. I'd seen a few photos floating around on Instagram of the very recognisable gymnasium but had no idea what the actual church looked like until I stepped foot inside, and it goes without saying I was pleasantly surprised with what I saw. The building as a whole is still very much intact and relatively undamaged although how long it will last I don't know as it's a spot which is gaining popularity in the city.
Thanks for looking
