Not much history on this site.
Opened 14th December 1963, after the craze came over from the USA. it is twice the size of Sheffield's first Bowling Alley at Frecheville, with 24 lanes and built at a cost of £300,000, it has a snack bar; luxuriously furnished lounge bar; modern changing rooms and powder rooms; a childrens nursery fitted with closed circuit television to enable "mum" to keep an eye on the children while she bowls. It’s 24 lanes were packed with many teens spending their Friday nights there some even travelling from the other side of Sheffield. It was home to one of the greatest bowlers of the time. Ron oldfield.
I can’t find much else however all I know was the “new” machines were 25 years old when they were fitted in 2011. It was originally known as fairlanes then amf bowling and finally mfa bowling until it suddenly closed its doors in 2018. Apparently due to non payment of rent following 5 robbery’s in 2 months.
I went back recently and unfortunately the site has been sealed and alarmed. Apparently following a serious injury / death where somebody breaking in apparently cut open their artery in their arm on a broken window. This isn’t confirmed though so may not be true.
This is a big site so please excuse the number of photos
