Brincliffe Towers was constructed in 1852 in neo-gothic style and was originally called ‘Brinkcliffe Tower’ – losing a K and gaining an S somewhere along the way. It had the reputation as the ‘most strongly built house in Sheffield’ with the basement being excavated out of solid rock. The mansion sits in Chelsea Park which was originally the grounds and gardens, designed by Robert Marnock. By the 1960’s, Brincliffe Towers was refurbished, had some extensions added and was taken over by the Social Services Department for use as a private care home and remained as such until around 2011.

There is currently some kind of planning application being developed for refurb and construction of several new homes, but is being met with some local resistance due to the site being on a public park.

Stunning place, love that dome sky light. The old bits are something special, great arched doorways, lovely floor tiles, the steel work round the stairs is special, . Cracking job. What a place and what a claim to history. "‘most strongly built house in Sheffield ". Absolutely love the Neo Gothic style. :thumb :thumb Fantastic report!
