History
Grade II listed, the main hospital building first opened its doors in 1830 and the site would gradually be developed majorly over the course of nearly a century. By the 1920s, the grounds would boast of an outpatients department, staff accommodation wing, south wing, a chapel and a department of cardiac disease. It offered a multitude of services to patients throughout Bristol and North-Somerset right up until the NHS closed its doors and relocated its last patients in April 2012.
The site has since been bought by developers, City & Country and despite recent controversy with Bristol City Council; they finally managed to obtain planning permission to renovate the site into luxury apartments and public facilities.

Ive been keeping an eye on this place for a little while now and after some research, discussions with fellow explorers SeffyboyUK, whodareswins and a non-member, we agreed on a date to finally give this a shot! But with just days to spare, we had one drop out and eventually whodareswins, who.. was too busy nursing a hangover! (no sympathy there mate!) So after all that, it was just my eager self and SeffyboyUK, who was very nervous and had every right to be with signs of 24hr security with guard dog!
After some mooching about, last minute surveillance and no obvious signs of activity, we made our move into the shadows of the night and found our way in. As already anticipated, there was very little in the way of furnishings and we found ourselves tip-toeing through long spooky corridors, empty wards and bare treatment rooms with few lights left on here and there. Although we had much more ground to cover, after spotting a security guard through a window casually heading towards the main entrance with a set of keys, we decided to call it a night!
