On a drive to check out the new development of an old explore we passed this place and I thought I would stop. It is a good few miles out of any town but right next to the road, so I wasn't sure what I would find. The place shut down in 2014 but the damage by lack of love and the weather is pretty shocking. It had been emptied out of most things and the damp was terrible due to loads of missing roof tiles. Downstairs is a bar area and office, small kitchen and cellar. Upstairs would have been the living area as it was through a door marked private. When I researched it later I found that it has had planning permission submitted three times: first for a change of use: denied, then for demolition and replacement with one dwelling: denied, and then for demolition and replacement with 3 houses: denied. Leaves a very sad looking but (I think) beautiful building to rot away. Which brings me to the gruesome find in the storage room out the back - a freezer, turned off and left open, filled with rotting meat (or at least I think it was meat under that mound of mould!) I wandered right into the room and then took a breath - the stench was stomach churning and no doubt a health hazard! I actually double checked to make sure there wasn't a body in there as well. Disgusting.
