Former Shire Hall, was rebuilt to the designs of Archie Ainsworth-Hunt, the county architect, in the Edwardia Baroque style between 1906 and 1907. St Margaret's House, another 18th century building was subsequently incorporated into the complex.
Rebuilt around 1750 and remodelled in the early and mid-C19, now Magistrates and Crown Courts; and Shire Hall.
The magistrates’ court in the town closed in October 2016 – alongside Lowestoft Magistrates’ Court – following cuts by the Ministry of Justice (MoJ), with cases being moved to Ipswich.
The courts have been sold with planning to convert into apartments but Im not sure how far along with this they are. Im hoping they preserve some of this though!
Not much to tell about the explore really, I sneaked in when there was a window of opportunity & spent a few hours wandering around & thoroughly enjoyed it.
For that reason its a bit pic heavy!
The cells looked particularly gloomy with the green emergency lighting for company.
Stairs into the docks
Thanks For Looking
