In the 19th century there was a gin distillery here, which was converted into a candle factory in 1902 and ceased operations in 1983.
There is still a coal-fired steam boiler here, with the inscription “Mahy Frères, 1908”. After 1940, a new system with cast wheels for making candles was built.
The machines for making candles come from the Reinhold Wünschmann company in Leipzig, which was founded in 1864. In 1932 the company had to file for bankruptcy.
The Wünschmann company specialized in the production of candle casting machines and the establishment of candle factories.
A joint venture was founded together with Schumann Electricity Works.
Until 1919, both companies had joint administration and management.
The production building on Gießerstr. still exists today and, after renovation, is still in use.
