History - Chatterley Whitfield Colliery is a disused coal mine on the outskirts of Chell, Staffordshire in Stoke on Trent. It was the largest mine working the North Staffordshire Coalfield and was the first colliery in the UK to produce 1,000,000 tons of saleable coal in a year. The colliery and pithead baths complex are on Historic England's Heritage at Risk Register due to being in very bad condition and not in use.In September 2019, it was named on the Victorian Society's list of the top ten most endangered buildings in England and Wales.
The explore - this is a place that I’ve explored numerous times as each time we’ve managed to get into new areas due to it being a large site and lack of access, We explored the area one afternoon with the goal being to enter the disused museum. the site is very large and sharp tall fences surround it along with on site security who for some strange reason are never there when we decide to explore it. All of the mines are blocked up and we found an area where someone had taken bricks out of a wall to try and enter although there was only a small tunnel no longer than 5 metres,we managed to get into every building this explore tackling the sketchy climbs and endless Herris fencing covering the site which kept us there for a good five hours.we managed to access the old museum which was great and also check out some bits we didn’t know where there also heard a rumour about a possible mine entrance that’s become accessible so could be back soon
