Had our eye on this one for a number of years but it was always very tight. However a few weeks ago some pointless scaffolding went up on the front to 'disguise it'. We did a bit of a recce and realised it would be a good way inside but lights were on and a radio seemed to be on the go. Naturally we were worried there may be occupants of some description but a few recce trips and a few weeks of driving past didnt show any activity so we were just about gearing up to give it a go when boom! Walking back from the pub Saturday night we took a small detour past the place and the front door was literally swinging in the breeze... Cue some midnight exploring! (and a return in the morning for photos)
Granted the works isnt quite on the level of George Barnsley or AJ Parkers but it had that exact same feel of an extremely old fashioned works with little if any modernisation and plenty of 'junk' tucked away to hunt through. The works appeared to have originated as some sort of metal spinning and pressing company known as AJ Landon or 'Landon Bros' and later specialised in lighting after becoming Christopher Ray's. The works now stands alone in the middle of Birmingham 'Eastside' development. It looks totally out of place in the midst of all the high rise glass fronted hotels and office blocks. In my opinion they should probably have just bulldozed it, it doesnt fit.
