The Combine Harvester Graveyard
A bit of history
If I think combine harvesters I can’t help thinking of the Wurzels 1976 hit “I have a brand new combine harvester” or I’d think of East Anglia or Kent where there are huge fields of cereals waiting to be harvested, a place for spares I’d have thought would be nearby. Head North nearly into Scotland and you’ll find this place – the Mecca for combine parts.
This is the largest breakers of combine harvesters in the UK, and stock of over 350 machines covering all makes. They are a family run business covering three generations. The initial diversification into combine spare parts was set up by John Manners in 1972 giving them over 25 years experience in the salvage, dismantling and reconditioning of combine harvesters.

My Visit
I ended up in Alnwick for a few days with work, a quick trip out found myself with the choice of a well reported derelict railway station, a disused quarry or the combine harvesters grave yard, I didn’t have too much time and as I’d dismissed the quarry and had seen the outbuildings at the station were possibly being developed I headed to the graveyard.
To be honest I could have jump fences and waded through drainage ditches and brambles; but having read a few accounts of here on other sites; I just phoned prior to my arrival and was more than welcome to take photos of the combines – Not so much and explore then, but somewhere interesting to take some photos; just wish I had some more time before the sun set!

A nice mooch if your in the area, I did enjoy it myself as I have worked as a farmer when I finished school and again in the mid 90’s.
