Report - Crag Mill Quarry, Northumberland - November 2014

Another splendid day out in the Northumberland countryside with a view to finding as many quarries as possible explored with Catbalou enjoyed your company and thanks for doing the driving again. As Cat said in her report some of these quarries are listed as inactive or active really you dont actually find out till you get there this one was i believe an inactive one but was far from it when we got there what with cctv and pir,s all over the place which appeared switched on and very much working. That said the processing plant for this place appeared to be almost redundant a bit rusting in places etc.

The control room with all the readouts set at zero.

Loved this sign reminds me of my reaction when setting off the alarms at a recent explore.

This was the water in question btw.

that where the "Deep Active Sludge" resided, im assuming.. as well as thin ice / danger / keep off / warning / and general "p off, go away" signs were? a tad 'overkill' perhaps!

great photos there and superb day out... need a revisit to the other site? with tripod this time

that where the "Deep Active Sludge" resided, im assuming.. as well as thin ice / danger / keep off / warning / and general "p off, go away" signs were? a tad 'overkill' perhaps!

Did a little research on the Wiki .."The activated sludge process was discovered in 1913 in the United Kingdom by two engineers, Edward Ardern and W.T. Lockett ."Activated sludge is a process for treating sewage and industrial wastewaters using air and a biological floc composed of bacteria and protozoa. "
Hmm...not exactly a tasty soup that you'd want be in ! The Good part is if it's in operation, the "air" part makes the pond a giant "fizzy". ...another trip to the internet ...

so all you skinny folk better start drinking beer so if you fall in a "deep active sludge" pond you won't sink !!
