This is Criggion VLF station, it was a massive super secret radio station used to transmit ultra secure information to submarines and shipping, mainly during the cold war. If the codes had ever gone out to launch a nuclear war, they would have come from this place.
The place is truly in the middle of nowhere and consists of two lovely looking art deco admin blocks, a main transmitter and coil building and another smaller technical building.
When I arrived, a security guy was onto me in about sixty seconds. He was a helpful chap though and was only looking out for pikeys and vandals. Sadly however they have done their work already and the insides are mostly stripped and trashed.
The huge 1000ft (!) transmitter supports were blown up back in 2003 and were secured to a local mountain. Gives you an idea of the scale of the place.
Good SubBrit article on the place here.

A video of the very strange Coil Hall is here; no I was not playing squash LOL
