Report (Permission Visit) Crossness Pumping Station Illuminated - July 2019

Mockney Reject has written a comprehensive history of this building published Aug 5th, 2018 under 'Abbey Mills' Pumping Station. I happened to be in the building to view a light installation so took just a couple of pics on a dying camera.

The site is within the wider Thames Water sewage treatment works, not too far from the extended Thames Path along the river.

This little Victorian building is nice enough on the outside but beautiful inside with a working beam engine. It feels like you are standing in a huge steam powered machine... which you are. Steampunk dreams

Firstly it could do with a bit more of a a write-up, (some more history) as it's got plenty associated with it

I think you may be a little confused fella, Abbey Mills and Crossness are two different but very similar pumping stations

Ok, thanks (and you Mockney Reject). Moral of the story, don't post hastily whilst tired. I know Abbey Mills and Crossness are different, I just thought because I wasn't on a 'proper' explore, I wouldn't write more, MR's Abbey Mills report was thorough and the buildings not too dissimilar (different sides of the Thames). Re-reading it, the post is not clear at all. I will remove and repost when I write a bit more. I wasn't in it for long and didn't explore properly so I didn't want to come across as someone knowing all the history and not exploring any of the building. Consider me chastened.

consider it a learning curve, this place is absolutely beautiful in normal light and can imagine how stunning it is when lit up.
