Report - Cummins Diesel Engine Factory - Shotts , Scotland

Owned and specifically built for a corporation founded roughly 100 years ago that designs, manufactures, and distributes engines, filtration, and power generation products who also services engines and related equipment.

This state of the art Diesel engine factory founded in the mid 1950’s pioneered a new breed of engines used in railway passenger trains.

The original factory was expanded in 1960’s and then transformed by a radical expansion in the 1980’s resulting in the architecturally distinct front elevation of the building (see drawings photographed)

After many years of successful production, blood, sweat and tears the factory drew to a close just before the milenium. Just before closure, the facility employed over 2000 people, a third of these hard working men and women living nearby the facility in shotts.

It is such a breathtaking building and to find a previously broken window was even better this is probably our most large explores on a square foot basis.

Found this on the way to Hartwood Hospital but never knew if it was accessible untill a good friend of mine showed me it and we decided to go take a visit.

It would appear not - it appears that the building can be rented out Ft By Ft seems like only a few companies have chosen to do so like a waste disposal company and tyre recycling. The core section of the building remains in a dryish but poor condition.

That’s it corrected now thanks yeah it appears that by our observations that it was used as storage for some time possibly a plastics production line afterwards there was a lot of raw medium for melt down injection moulding etc. There was a CNC machine and various other odd assortments.

Interestingly there was old cctv VHS tapes labelled from Monday to Sunday - would have been good to have a wee look however that would have involved taking them away from the premises.

They scaled down their operations across the UK in favour of manufacturing in China and as a result a number of plants have been closed and others supposedly being put to alternative use by Cummins though these seem to have generally just become storage for all the shit imported from china. Another Cummins factory for the welding and fabrication of the engine beds was recently burnt down in Kent after closure.
