I've said it before and I'll say it again, Huddersfield is the home of the epics. Well, its surrounding villages are.
One thing that amazes me about industrial buildings like these is the way in which demand has always outnumbered supply; causing extension upon extension and ultimately creating gigantic complexes that are like rabbit warrens. Unfortunately a large proportion of the Dobroyd complex has already been demolished, including the chimney which was controversially dropped in 2011.
For some reason English Heritage don't deem the mill to be of special architectural of historic interest? Funny really, when you consider that it has stood on the same site for almost 200 years, providing jobs for the majority of the locals for at least three quarters of that time. Not historic at all.
If anyone decides to pay Mr Woodhead's mill a visit, good luck getting in...
