Nara Dreamland operated from 1961 - 2006, it closed due to lack of visitors. There's a video on youtube that shows the park in operation in 2004, it didn't look too dissimilar then from how it does now, most of the shops were already closed back then, and there were almost no visitors in the park.
I had to walk half way round the park to find a convenient entrance, two barbed wire fences later and I was in. There is very little man made damage, apart from the odd bit of graffiti and a number of smashed windows.
Word of warning if you plan to visit, there may be a guard in there who will try and fine you if he catches you. I can't confirm the accuracy of this.
Entrance to the Park.
The Main Street.
The Screw Coaster
A Control Room.
The Aska Coaster.
The Water Park.
Kids Ride.
And below the video from the trip.
