Earle's Cement Works - Fowler Shunter
Ok, I've not really posted any of my explores onto here for a few month, so I've decided I'll do a few tonight starting with this one, it's short and sweet but for anyone interested in Railways and Industry it should be right up your street! Sadly other than this locomotive and shed the site offers very little but I think it's worth a gander all the same. So what we have here is an old Fowler Diesel Shunting Locomotive, the locomotive is in the Blue Circle Cement yellow and blue livery and was Built by John Fowler & Co in Leeds, Works number: 4240017. There's also one of these still in operation at Great Hecks Plasmor Works, the only one of it's kind still in one piece I think. The works themselves here were opened in the 1930's I believe by Capper Pass and Sons, although come 1981 the works had closed due to carcinogenicity decontamination found in the area or something like that! However our shunter remained on site After a clean up the site was taken over by Omya and is used by them for storage, and of course there is security on site! However the majority of the cement works is gone and what's left barring the engine shed seemed to be unacceptable on my visit.
Well folks I've ranted enough to bore you all for a lifetime so on with the interesting bit, the pics!
So first impressions, the engine shed on approach...
Hmmm, it seems first impressions don't always count!
Please sir, can I cab it?
It's wheely good... Sorry, I just had to...
The Beast within!
Fire up the Fowler!
That's enough for one day, it's tea time lol
And that's all folks, thanks for reading!
