Opened in 1893 and designed in a ‘Queen Anne’ style by local architect Thomas Beesley and built by R. Neill & Sons of Manchester. The town halls’ most distinguishing features being a five-stage clocktower complete with belfry and an assembly hall with circle seating. The halls’ stage was even graced by a then up-and-coming band called The Beatles in November 1962 and was billed as ‘The Big Beat Show No 2’.
The building served as the headquarters for Newton-Le-Willows Urban District Council for much of the 20th century until St Helens council eventually closed the town hall in 2008 to meet budget savings but earlier this year plans were put in place to eventually reopen the building to the public, with £980,000 worth of external repairs starting in April and an expected completion date of Autumn.
Wasn’t going to bother uploading anything from here as I only took about 10 shots, mainly due to being lazy and also generally messing around inside for too long before it suddenly got too dark. But I figured it might be worth a share... be worth a better look around if it appeals to anyone?
Borrowed external since it's currently covered in scaff
Hall
Clocktower - there was a nice array of bells up here but no pictures
A few other areas
That's all I got... Might be stuff to see on the ground floor and in the basement?
