At the confluence of the Ceulan and Leri rivers, a young boy called 'Spliffy' was born in his fathers workshop under a small book. His father was well known in the area and owned a number of small tweed mills which supplied fabrics and employment to the Ceredigion valleys. After his fathers death in 1638AD, Spliffy took it on himself to carry on the business. Times were hard and food was scarce, Spliffy had an idea that he thought would revolutionise the tweed industry. The concept was to create edible garments that could be eaten in times of great hardship. He started to weave Danish Blue into all of his clothes, but this didn't work out quite how he expected. Although, his creation did have a long lasting impact on the fashion industry. This is the first recorded instance of the creation of what we now call 'denim'.
