So on way to visiting FDQ and the swan me @WilsonTheHuman and 2 nonmembers made a stop off at the well-known Farleigh down tunnels
we bump into a friendly traveler at the top of the slope
there not much to really say about this one expect it a long tunnel lol.

Some very basic history as this site has been don over and over again :
history: https://www.subbrit.org.uk/sites/monkton-farleigh-ammunition-depot-farleigh-down-tunnel/

The tunnel was designed to handle 1000 tons of ammunition daily. This was not scheduled for completion until 1941.

Some basic photos.

Apparently a transport tunnel to move explosives from railway to the storage depot, this was never actually a mine or quarry so should really have gone in the Underground Sites section.

did somebody say 10 minutes!!!!!! didn't realised we had Usain Bolt as a member here

Its about a mile and a quarter, the first conveyor is 2370ft long and the second one 2170ft plus the lengths of the sorting yard/office space and yes I do need to get out more.

It’s been about 8years since I’ve been up it so my timings a bit off :D

@DaveFM its part of the monkton farleigh underground/mine complex but not strictly a mine as such

We also went today. Was great fun and a good one to take kids too. Hopefully they get into exploring and respecting sites.
