This is a repost of an earlier explore that was lost when essential maintenance was required on the 28 days website , This one was a saturday morning outing on one of the hottest days of the summer I remember stopping around the woods in waders looking for the entrance wondering if i would find it before heat exhaustion found me first lol . Gaining entry at the side of park lane were the river Erewash crosses under the road just above the sewage works , It was a bit of a scramble as the wire fencing had collapsed around the top of the chamber but after driving 6 junctions down the M1 i was not going to give up that easily
inside the first chamber 2 options here i started with the bigger 2.1m diameter RCP
looking forward then looking back
this next section was very misty the ends of both pipes were clear but mist did hang in this section , was surprised about the amount of clams or oysters in the drain there was loads of them they must be reproducing down here ! there was also crayfish down here
light up ahead
second chamber open to the air
moving upstream to the left
looking forward then looking back
in to chamber number 3 it was raining water down in here
was about 10m tall to the manhole lid quite deep underground struggled to get good pics with the water raining down !
6m plus waterfall reminded me of lava from a volcano lol
another ochre stained waterfall
it was soft to the touch , moving on upstream
the RCP pipe was very clean but slippery as hell i busted a couple of dance moves but luckily managed to stay upright
ochre stained calcite was hard as glass to the touch
inside the small drain reminded me of the breech drain this
gates locked here with a flimsy padlock and chain was a long way this last section cant understand why 3 chambers were close together and this last section was a really long slog any road a fair walk back to the very first chamber and straight up the smaller drain
a bit of a stoop this smaller drain very clean but a fair old flow of water coming down considering how dry its been of late this pic looking back to the start
just like the previous drain the middle section was quite misty was also getting very hot !
after a long time of featureless slog i came across a large manhole
cso overflow stank a bit this
moving on upstream the fog cleared, on this bit the side walls had collapsed and there was a deep puddle in the middle of it were it had all washed out
the end of the drain thank god as i had deffo had enough by now ! the long march back out now
back to the first chamber theses pipes go under park lane 2x 600mm and one 225mm pipe that last small section pipe was hard work but the fire falls chamber was great thanks for viewing
