The 12000 sq ft First Depot was built in 1982, housing 80 vehicles and employing 250 people. The site became too large for the operators requirements and was closed in 2017 with services being moved to other locations. According to the local rag where I stole that information from a planning application was approved so the site may or may not have been demolished by now.

I was back home in Yorkshire for a few days in april 2023 and spent a day with a friend visiting a few places. This was on the list although I wasn't too interested in seeing it given the trashing I'd heard it had received and the outright bashing it was getting by visitors in general. I was persuaded with the promise of an epic boiler house and vast spaces, also my late father had spent 10 years as a bus driver in East Yorkshire so sure; why not.

A good lesson of why one should not necessarily believe the headlines followed, I had myself a great time and thoroughly enjoyed the place. The boiler house was indeed worth it. A very relaxed couple of hours, a weird conversation with a foreign family stripping cables and an impromptu site visit by the owners in their fancy black 4x4s provided us with an entertaining visit.

The boiler house was great, loads to climb around on.

Really nice set of photos! There's a surprising amount of nice details there.
I visited in 2022 but there were sensors in the office hallways I didn't notice, got met by police when I went to leave :rofl

I don’t think I even photographed the office part. We entered through it alright because I remember seeing it but it was just too far gone by then.

This was quite a photogenic place for a bus depot, you've captured it really well. Agreed that the boiler house is lovely 👍

Thanks man. There was a lot to photograph here. I nice mix of nature and [accelerated] decay.

Always nice when a place is better than expected. Nice shots there.
What timing, the owners turned up :oops

Thanks Jane, we nearly bumped into them inside but managed to avoid being seen. Not sure if the family stripping cables escaped or not. We gave them the heads up as we vacated at speed though.

I too was pleasantly suprised how much i enjoyed it in here, also met a couple of cable tea leaves but they were friendly enough

You have pictured it well to say it was mainly big open space :D

I had to push back my visit here a few months as when i turned up the first time there was a traveller camp set up in the car park :rofl

I’m pretty certain there were still a few travellers in the carpark, I don’t remember them being an issue though. Thanks!

Proper nice that, superbly captured.

Thanks mate!

Hahah got to save themselves the pennies somewhere I guess. You got the last laugh seeing the whole place turn into burnt out scrap though 😀. Cheers mate!
