This is a six story Albert Kahn building built in 1919.
They made a lot of auto bodies here but switched over to mainly General Motors till 1984. It is right down the street from Henry Ford's first model T plant on Piquette Ave.
The floors were originality covered in hard wood 'bricks' used to deaden the stamps and absorb oil as they were easily replaced.
The top floor was used for the spray booths, which when designed was used for lacquer which was extremely flammable and had a unique vented roof to make sure that dangerous fumes were easily evacuated.
The nice thing about this building is a majority of the uppermost assembly line is still intact.
