The storm drain was originally constructed as a result of two floods in the early 1930s – the latter one in 1932 being known in Derby as the ‘Great Flood’ in which many homes and businesses were ruined by floodwater. By 1938 the drain was in use, draining excess water from the Markeaton and Bramble brooks. Each brook has its own infall which flows east for 2.2km before emerging near Darley Park and joining the river Derwent.
Not sure the forum needs another Flo Selecta report, but this one is very local to me and I’ve been a few times now. I actually find it quite relaxing nipping in during an evening and doing some light painting! The following pictures were taken from January through to October.
