Fole dairy occupied the site of Fole Mill, originally built in 1771 for Henry Copestake. The Dairy opened in the 1920s and was originally owned by Co-operative Wholesale Society (C.W.S.) Milk Group, and produced milk and cream. In 1995 management passed to Associated Co-operative Creameries, and finally in 2006 to Dairy Farmers of Britain (D.F.B.). At the time the Dairy closed on 31 March 2009 it employed 246 people.
Another place from the archive, this large dairy was a bit of an unknown before turning up but we found a way in pretty easily and got through the whole site with ease including the older mill building off to one side which had been turned into bland offices and workshops at some point. The most interesting building was the small mid-century white building sat in the middle of the site that appeared to be a pumphouse of some kind which not only looked cool from the outside but was the most photogenic part by a long way. The bulk of the site was torn down a couple of years ago, leaving just the original mill building standing.
Nothing much else to remark upon other than that, we came, wandered around, took some photos and left.
Thanks for looking
