Ive been wanting to get into this place ever since me and Lawrence spied it roof topping CH china a few weeks back, i knew of the existence of a place in warrington known as garnetts but didnt put two and two together at the time.
Anyway, here is the fantastic watertower that fuelled our interest.
So off we headed in the direction of the tower and got to the base and realised it was part of garnetts so we set about (poorly) recceing it with a view to coming back only to receive a phonecall from Gibbo who knew we were keen to say himself and beanie rob had found access, so with this in mind we headed back tonight.
Explored with Gibbo, Lawrence, userscott, gimbulate and beanie rob.
Anyway, as per usual a bit of scene setting spiel:
Robert Garnett was born on 6 Jun 1830 in Penketh, Warrington, Lancs.. He died on 9 Apr 1903 in Penketh, Warrington, Lancs.. He was buried in Sankey. He married Mary James on 15 Sep 1859 in Stanwix, Carlisle. Robert was employed as a Cabinet maker. He was a generous local benefactor to many churches and charities and even laid the foundation stone at penketh methodist church.
Anyway access and exit proved to be comedy and unfortunately due to the state of the floors we didnt manage to top the tower either, but i found it an extremely interesting explore nevertheless.
The place had two of these large internal courtyards.
The basements were fantastic and we reckon they were used a s air raid shelters during the war
We also managed to get from the roof of here onto the roof of the building next door with a bit of inventiveness courtesy of Scott and Lawrence
And a couple of exteriors to finish, the writing says garnetts cabinet works.
