Visited this evening with Zimbob.
After not being able to find this in the summer I assumed it had be demolished in the construction of the neighbouring water board compund, but we had a recce en-route to Poolewe a couple of weeks ago and found her, tucked in a very overgrown compound with the remains of a metal gate and a small wooden footbridge. Access in summer without machete or chainsaw would be nigh on impossible. I have few exterior shots due to it being REALLY dark.
This post was closed in 1991. It is locked on the T-bar, which we do not have, but a little on-site improvisation saved the day (or night)
Interesting hand written weather data chart on a small piece of ply hanging from ladder.
Overview of the operations room
BT Stuff (wasn't working)
And the mighty (And beautifully preserved) Teletalk
Inside the cupboard (very tidy)
We found this amusing
Battery top up instructions
And the fluid (Still full and sealed)
Three mattresses (still wrapped in their original paper. A canvas sheet with cotton ties along each side (stretcher?) and a metal splint. We tidied up a little
First aid kit contents (No first aid kit!)
Map of local ROC posts, many now gone, or locked.
Rubber gloves still in bag, and harder than a quadratic equation!
Vanity?
That explains it!
A more modern looking timer
Hand pump, not working
Sadly the sump was full and with the pump not working (we tried for ages, but the water level didn't drop) It is only a matter of time before that beautiful carpet is destroyed. Seriously though, this is a very clean and tidy post, given its very secluded location, will remain so- as long as the water does not get it first.
Hope you enjoy
