Continuing with the old posts - twas mid week in October and I'd finished by 1pm that day and holed up in Chesterfield. A quick ring to Silversteath and an hour later I've nailed it up the M1 to Sheffield. I'm meeting him, Dan, Trousercowboy, RAndy, Mexico75, Esposa and some local chap called 0742 who had apparently found/got into this pretty special place called George Barnsley's & Sons. Probably one of the best industrial explores I've ever done. This was my first visit and probably not photographically my best. You can find various visits from here on my website - https://www.whateversleft.co.uk/?s=george+barnsley

The history of the place is pretty sketchy, but they specialised in making tools for shoe makers and leather workers. Amazingly the place only closed down in 2004 yet had the feel of pure 1970s workplace. A complete time warp. Sadly it would get trashed over the years and several bits of politics/arguments followed. I'm not here for that today, just to share the pictures

Agree the place does have a 70s look. The orange curtains, all the wood, those bits of equipment and lights all look dated for 2004. Another nice back cat:thumb

Absolute beauty, these must be the earliest photos I've seen of it post-abandonment. Some parts of it I don't even recall seeing myself when I went.

If you look below you'll see some from Mar/Apr 2008 but these only got in the bits on the side, it wasn't till later in 08 that it was fully open

Brings back pleasant memories shame it got so trashed and stripped out still inevitable i suppose. When i went it would have been about 4 or 5 years after your visit it was still ok then not as good as your 2008 mooch. Thanks for posting.

By 1849 they had moved to the Cornish Works The business is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Mowbray Manufacturing Co Ltd and operates from premises on Mowbray Street, Sheffield, along with its sister company Woodware Repetitions, who make the wooden handles for these and many other tools

Loved that. Great set of pix. One of my fave all-time explores. Not too much had changed when I visited in 2015 and 2017.
