The firm, which has been forging work since about 1830, closed its old plant at Doctors Piece in Willenhall, where it had been since its formation, at the end of last year.

All staff have now moved to the company’s Imperial Works in Heath Road. Plant and equipment is being reinstalled there.

Another little gem. We first spotted this last year just before it closed. It looked derelict back then! Thankfully they have left quite a bit behind. Its just keeps coming right now! :thumb

Ha no just found myself with alot of free time so far this year. Last year was shit, this year i just sad fuck it and have taken the risks/put the effort in/got on with it. Clebby has helped alot too, good to have someone around who A. is capable B. is keen C. is reliable! (lol).. The only thing that worrys me is that all these 'new' places this year have all been on the rader for a while, not new discoveries, just loose ends tied up but we are running out in this neck of the woods again.. need to spread our wings i guess..

beautiful! I thought as I turned pc on that I'm missing heavy oily stuff on here, living near leicester is all well and good but its all light duty stuff, then I see this thread! Nice one, nothing like some forging presses and a jig borer to start the day!

This is a WN-112 Joy Sullivan ( later became Joy Manufacturing Co) Riciprocating Air Compressor, 14" LP piston and 8" HP piston. I worked at Gedling Colliery as Compressor Fitter from 84 till its close and had to service and maintain 5 of these beauties, although they look hard work they were immensly reliable requiring very little maintenace other than topping up the auto oiler (12" sq block at front in middle) The large cylinder at the rear with 'JOY' written on it is the LP Intercooler. I was at my happiest in my working career whilst at Gedling and would return in a flash given the chance. The loss of the coal industry will be regretted on a scale so immense that one day we will ask ourselves how we evr got to this position. The destruction of the industry and loss of so many jobs is a legacy that has left the country in the big s**t that will continue for decades to come. Sorry to waffle. Anyway, it made me very sad to see this old girl no longer running. When you had five of these goping the air in the compressor house would actually pulse and many lads would refuse to enter the comp house as it scared them...me, I love it.
