I would imagine that the original purpose of the tunnels was to carry steam and power around the works, but there is obvious signs that there has been production down there during war time, and some have been fitted out as shelters with gas proof doors.
We went down here many moons ago but we missed loads and I was keen to get back, photograph more and have a better mooch.
There has been loads of stuff dumped down the tunnels over the years some of which gives an idea what went on upstairs. The oil from the shop floor is slowly leaking downstairs too, resembling bleeding walls!
