History
This amazing place used to be a casino with a massive ballroom above and with a cocktail bar, champaign bar along with other bars and restaurant. The casino itself closed down only last year in 2015 and I think the ballroom above was shut for some time. I am unaware of any plans for the site as of yet. All I could find out about this casino was what I found on the companies website which said the following:
“Grosvenor Casino Osborne Road is closed for business as of Sunday 9th August 2015. We sincerely apologise if this causes any inconvenience.
We do have another casino in Portsmouth which we welcome you to come and visit.
We would like to thank you for your custom at Grosvenor Casino Osborne Road and look forward to welcoming you to Grosvenor Casinos Gunwharf Quays and to any other of our 55 Grosvenor Casinos nationwide.”
The Explore
This place I had known about from a few other explorers, however as there have been no reports on this place and there is nothing online we all presumed there was no access. Well we searched for a while and eventually we managed to get inside.
The access to this casino I don’t want to say to much about as this place really is a absolute gem! And to be honest, the fewer people in there the better. It has not been vandalised at all, no graffiti, no signs of fire damage and no smack heads crouched in the corner. I hope it stays this way…..I doubt it will though.
After getting inside the main casino we started at the top and worked our way down. Starting at the ballroom which absolutely blew my mind. One of the most impressive explores I have ever been to without a doubt. The size of the place alone is impressive not to mention the stone cherub statues and the gold delicate metal work around the old bar all untouched and still in its place.
From the ballroom we went down to the champaign and cocktail bars next to the casino where we were delighted to find that the power was on, so on came the lights and so did the air conditioning as it was quite stuffy in there haha.
The casino itself was really nice and good condition, all that has really happened in there since it shut is that they have removed all of the gambling machines. Everything else is still there, we even found some chips dotted around the place and lots of playing cards and a few other bits of casino related items. The safes were brilliant and as you can imagine they were serious safes and massive….all empty unfortunately.
We were in this place for about a couple of hours the first trip, and I have been back a few times since. We wanted to go there as much as possible before posting this location due to its good condition and lack of human activity. I’m almost sad to share this place, but that’s what this is all about I guess
Thanks for looking!
