Report - Heatherside Hospital, Heatherside - 2018/2019

Hi there. This is my first exploration,
Here is a short history of the Heatherside.,

Built in 1906, Heatherside Hospital was a TB sanatorium. Its remote location was perfect for treating TB, as patients could breathe fresh air and rest.

The Hospital had two floors where the beds could be wheeled to the fresh air.

Somewhere in the 1930s or 1940s. These included housing for the nurses and doctors, a church, and an X-ray wing.

It ceased operation as a TB sanatorium in the late 1950’s

It then became a psycho-geriatric home, while it’s unknown when this occurred.

It closed fully in 2010, stating the remote location and staffing issues leading to its demise.

The site is reported to be 56 0000 sqft sets on 22 acres, mostly forest.

Unfortunately, the places have been trashed since I was here. Also, patients' files were left behind, which is why they are mostly exterior shots.

It was a good couple of years ago …. I lost my SD card found it in a clear out lol . I think it was around 2018 or 2019 …. I wish I got better shots of the inside but too much person stuff still left …. In their

Thank you .... it's a real shame to see go down hill .... it's had some media attention has drawn too it now so it's been badly damaged in the last number of years ... I think it was around 2019 or 2018 not sure due to loosing the SD Card and only found it the other day during a clean out ....!

There was an article recently in CorkBeo about protests regarding its suggested future use, on site security was mentioned… it made me laugh to think the Hse would finally care enough to try and protect what’s left.

Exactly it’s amazing they care once there is a supposed use for the building ! Bit too late lads …. ! And I can't see it being used for its supposed future use as it's too remote .

Yeah make no mistake about it, if they try and push for the suggested future use I imagine it’ll will be up in flames the same week the proposed planning goes in. Just like a lot of the other buildings around the country.

That sounds about right! I wonder, have our friends who like to procure stuff been into it for the copper?
It would be very sad to see the place burnt to the ground, but I can't see it happening as it would cost too much at this stage.

This. Some amount of money would need to be spent to bring this place back to life.
