Hendon Gasworks was designed by Thomas and Charles Hawksley
opened in 1860 with 2 holders then increasing too 4 holders
closed in 1908 for modernising reopening in 1909,
the 2 north holders no. 1 and no. 2 were removed during 1990 - 91
leaving the 2 south holders no. 3 and no. 4 which remain today
holder no. 5 is a self supporting tank.
Holders no. 3 and no. 4 remain flat, these are used for maintaining the pressure of the pipes
while holder no. 5 lifts on occasions.
The lids of holders no. 3 and no. 4 are in a bad way, theres a leak from holder no. 4.
