Hendre Spar Mine, Visited with Earth Worm Jim, Evil Jim and another none forum chap called Andy.
Hendre is near Mold in north wales, not surprisingly, it was a fluorspar mine which mined white, clear and yellow fluorspar. Spar has lots of uses, but i cant find any info which would confirm what the spar from this mine was used for, which is strange as the mine was worked up untill 1981
My explore was kind of a supprise, i wasn't expecting to be touring the mine, as far as i was aware, i was just going taking a few pictures of EWJ doing a bit of SRT.
we got to the mine for around 6pm, after a short walk up the hill, we spotted the entrance, which i beleive was an old vent shaft.
After a quick rest, we went into the mine, at this point i expected that to be it, and we would be roping up at some point around here.
well, that wasn't the case, we basicly made our way to the lower sections stoping only to have a quick look at the mist falling into the mine..
Having reached the lowest points we could, we started to make our way back up, stopping along the way for a few pics. as you can see, i have suffered from epic fail with my pictures on this outing, not sure why, dont really know what went wrong but this is the best i could do.
A few pictures, in no real order on the way back up..
Anyway, that was the tour of the mine!
Then for a play with the ropes! At this point, i must point out, I've never done any SRT before, all the climbing i have done, and abseiling has all been done belayed or TR'd so a big thanks to EWJ for the crash course.
then we packed up and headed down to the pub, a refreshing end to a good few hours underground.
Thanks for looking!
