I'm terrible at writing but I got a lot of pictures, nice explore around HMS Ganges with some bits trickier than others to get to. It was great to see the level of decay to the internals of the buildings when the structure itself was still solid.
*Edit: Forgot to add that there is a lot of construction going on in the center of the site, this is all being developed into new housing. Not sure how much longer these parts will be standing
A bit of history.
Shotley Battery was built around 1862-1865 to protect the Port of felixstowe. With seven sides, 3 magazines and surrounded by a dry ditch and a Carnot wall. The Battery was disarmed in 1901 and handed over to the Admiralty in 1904 as part of HMS Ganges on shore training establishment (RNTE). In the mid 70's it had a change of use and became a police training centre to then be closed for good in 1999.
