I had visited this place quite a while back but always fancied going back. It is such a beautiful place and all the old machinery and stuff overgrown. So on the way back from Scotland on what was a stupidly hot summers day I stopped by. And was pleased to see nothing had changed at all.
The company was founded in 1842 by James holding. It moved premises in 1860, then eventually set up the current site in the 1890s. The company used the local clay to make there wares, the work continued in much the same way till closure in what was prob the 1980s. they even opened the place to the public so they could see how the work was done. This place was a tiny run business, not like the big ones around Derbyshire way and Stoke. it was passed through the family over years. it makes the place a bit more personal.
