A visit down to Kent with man gone wrong ended up visiting this old deep level shelter for the nearby battery. We found the tunnel entrance easily enough thanks to a few pointers from Grom. But first we took a long walk up the hill to get too the thing, this turned out to be a nice ghost road. And for the only time that day it chucked it down with rain as we were halfway up. It was not the longest road up, but it was steep, not use to big hills in Norfolk. The tunnels themselves are really nice, with the main one being exceptionally long. I think it was Obscurity and his crew who uncovered this beauty, so hats off to them. And it still remains untouched by graffiti.

The Hougham battery was built in 1941 amongst a number of batteries along the Kent coastline, with the threat of invasion, these batteries were vital defences to what could be the landing point. A lot of these batteries were built with a deep level shelter. This one was no exception, except it had a dressing station that could be converted to a field hospital. The main entrance had a more gradual slope for the movement of beds. But it was still fairly steep, and very long with the more gradual incline.

Starting with the main tunnel.
