This is one I'd be meaning to do for a while. It's a fairly large active site, but with one big disused building that was the former 'Beare Green Factory'. It a tad underwhelming once I got inside as it was mostly used for storage and the only really interesting bit was the old kiln ovens.
History
Production started just before WW2, after several ownership changes it ended up in the hands of its current owner, Ibstock Bricks. I can't find an exact date that it was closed, but I'd guess somewhere in the 70/80s.
The current factory that sits to the north of the former factory continues to produce bricks and has been granted permission continue production till at least 2025. Planning permission states that they are seeking to demolish the old factory.
The Explore
A relatively straight forward affair, with only needing to worry about a digger driving around at the bottom quarry. The derelict site seems to be only used for storage now and so sees little traffic.
Inside the factory is the old brick kilns and an array of old equipment, motors and stored product. Most of looks like its not been touched for many years.
It's actually not that big of a factory in hindsight, especially compared to the much larger Clockhouse Brickworks just down the road from here (Which is all empty now).
While it was no epic, it was good get it ticked off.
